Does acupuncture hurt?
Most patients find acupuncture painless and relaxing. Some patients even fall asleep during treatment. Because acupuncture needles are the size of hairs, they don’t rip skin like standard needles. There is a small pinch when the needle passes through the skin but some patients report feeling nothing.
I am afraid of needles. Is it possible to undergo treatment without needles?
There are techniques used by Dr. Lu that do not involve needles. They are acupressure, cupping, moxibustion, T.D.P. lamp, dermal friction technique (gua sha) and Chinese herbs. However, Dr. Lu feels that the best results are obtained by using needles.
Is acupuncture hygienic and safe?
Acupuncture is completely hygienic and safe. Only sterilized disposable needles are used.

How many treatments does it take?
It depends on the condition being treated, severity of the illness and how well you respond to the treatment. Acupuncture treatment can last from one week to several months, or longer. Generally speaking, chronic conditions may take longer. Typically, acupuncture patients begin by receiving treatments 1-2 times a week at the clinic with Dr. Lu. As a patient’s condition improves, treatment becomes less frequent until the patient is cured. While some diseases remain incurable, acupuncture can go a long way toward alleviating discomfort and preventing or slowing down the development of the diseases. Some patients come to Dr. Lu for a “tune-up” a few times every year in order to maintain an optimum level of health and keep illnesses at bay.
Can acupuncture be used as preventative medicine?
Yes! Research has showed that acupuncture stimulates immune functioning, which can increase your resistance to bacterial and viral infection. Acupuncture increases overall energy and vitality, and it helps the body respond to injury and stress. Acupuncture can bring our bodies into balance, making us more at ease. Regular, monthly treatments can help you maintain good health and a sense of well-being.
